Welcome to my sanctuary - my healing herbs garden.
My aim is to share with you information and insight into the world of herbal healing, whether it be by horticultural, medicinal, nutritional or spiritual means.
What is a herb? Ask a botanist and you would get the answer - a herb is a plant that dies to the ground in Winter. However, generally the term 'herb' is given to plants whose leaves, stems or roots are used for healing, flavour or scent.
In horticultural terms the healing comes from working with the herbs. It is relaxing to potter about in the herb garden on a warm sunny day, enjoying the scent and texture of the leaves as you brush against them and the gentle buzzing of the many insects attracted to their blooms.
Many herbs can be used for healing common ailments and for skin care. A variety of these can be easily prepared at home using tools already in your kitchen and a few bottles and jars. Plant-based herbal healing has a long history and archaeological findings from early civilisations have shown that herbs were used in burials and other rituals.

While herbs in cooking are thought mainly to add flavour it should not be forgotten that they also contain nutrients vital for our well-being. Adding some healing herbs to your meals can help you to avoid nutrient deficiencies.
In many cultures herbs are used for their spiritual healing properties. Herbalists employ healing herbs for cleansing, blessing and protection. Mental and emotional problems can be healed by flower essence therapy, which uses infusions of blossoms from a wide variety of wild flowers, shrubs and trees.
This is a brief introduction to the world of healing herbs and we will explore each area in more depth as you journey through the sanctuary.
