ELECAMPANE

Description
Asia, Europe and Britain. Moist ground with shadow and shade.
This plant grows to about five feet in height. Its stem is stout and branches near the top. It has huge oval leaves measuring about a foot long and three or four inches wide. The yellow flowers are about three or four inches in diameter. They grow like double sunflowers.

The rhizomes should be collected from plants at least two years old, after the stems have died back

Effects
It is a warming herb which is useful for respiratory catarrh and for clearing up bronchitis. It is an expectorant. It is also a Diaphoretic .
It is also excellent for easing aching muscles and stiff joints. It is taken externally for this purpose.
Method
When taken as a decoction it works very well at getting rid of catarrh and coughs. A tincture can also be used. For muscular and rheumatic problems a handful of the whole herb (fresh or dried) can be added to the bath water. It can also be added to a steam inhalation during a cold.
Cautions
This herb should not be used while pregnant or lactating. Occasionally allergic reactions can happen
