Starters


On this page you will find recipes for starters using herbs. In some cases the recipe will call for fresh herbs. If, however you don't have any or it is the wrong time of year for the fresh herb, you can substitute dried. Just remember that if using the dried herb you should halve the quantity.

Spicy Lentil Soup

Ingredients

2t tbsp oil
2 onions chopped
2 cloves crushed garlic
8 oz red lentils
1 litre water
1 bay leaf
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp ground turmeric
2 tsp curry powder
sea salt
lemon juice
chopped fresh parsley





Heat the oil in a pan and cook the onions and garlic until soft but not coloured. Add the lentils, water, bay leaf, ginger, turmeric, curry powder and seasoning. bring to the boil and simmer gently for 45 mins, stirring occasionally.
Sharpen to taste with lemon juice, adjust the seasoning and serve sprinkled with fresh parsley.
